10 Questions To Ask Before You DIY

Posted By on April 14, 2011

With today’s technology and the availability of how-to blogs, websites, and video, today’s do-it-yourself bride can find tutorials for just about any wedding project she can think of. DIY projects for weddings, parties, or home decorating can be fun and very rewarding. Many turn out beautiful. There is a sense of accomplishment when you finish a project…a sense of pride…and you look at the final product and say, “I did that!” It’s a way to make a statement and put your own stamp on your event or in your home. For some, that’s the whole reason they DIY. For others, they do it because they want to, or need to, save money. Whatever reason(s) you are doing wedding projects on your own (wedding invites, save-the-dates, table centerpieces, favors) ask yourself these questions BEFORE you start:

1. How do I do with craft projects normally? Am I prone to screwing them up?

2. How much time do I have to devote to this project?

3. Do I need a professional’s help with certain aspects of my project (like deciding on the right words to use)?

4. Do I follow directions well?

5. Do I have plenty of space in my home for all the supplies needed for this project?

6. Is the amount of money I’ll save worth the amount of time I’ll spend doing this?

7. Do I have someone to help me?

8. Do I have my heart set on a professional look or a professional style for my project?

9. Do I have a good quality printer? Does my computer have plenty of fonts to choose from?

10. Have I ordered extra supplies in case of errors?

Should you DIY? That is totally up to you. Many cheers to the bride that can take on the DIY projects out there and still walk down the aisle with her sanity. However, most brides are planning weddings on top of working 40+ hours a week. Don’t be ashamed to pay the extra cash to have someone help you out for your big day! In the long run it will save your sanity.
